Beach Relocation - South Shore Beach was regularly ranked amongst the worst beaches in the nation for water quality. Studies confirmed the best option was to convert the existing beach into to greenspace and turn the rocky beach to the south into a sandy swimming area. The existing beach and the rocky beach to the south had been monitored side-by-side for 12 years, and the rocky beach was found to have significantly less water quality issues. The Friends of South Shore Park are exited to see the new beach, greenspace, and related improvements in the park. Construction is scheduled for substantial completion in July 2025. ​Playground - South Shore Park Playground is one of the most highly utilized playgrounds in Milwaukee County. ​Due to its heavy usage, it was in need of significant repair, and ideally replacement. Community support was essential to get a large-scale project like this approved by the County. Friends of South Shore Park advocated and raised funds for the project through the Fund Play Bay View Campaign. The playground rebuild is scheduled for completion in July 2025. Education - We host several hundred students from our community each year for an Earth Day Education event. This event features a series of environmental education sessions.

Past Projects - We are proud to recognize many accomplishments including advocating for Park Pavilion improvements, reconstruction of the breakwater and Oak Leaf trail, the South Shore Parking Lot reconstruction, as well as rain gardens and native plantings in the park.
